The Department of Public Health is one of five departments at the Faculty of Health. The department delivers education and research in a wide range of areas relevant to population health, health promotion and disease prevention. The Department of Public Health is dedicated to the improvement of human health through education, research, partnerships with organisations and communities, and the dissemination and translation of knowledge locally and globally.

In the project, Aarhus University is supporting activities related to health literacy in work package 1 and will contribute to work package 2 through the co-creation of a content library for the Bump2Baby and Me health coaching app. In addition, the team will conduct data analysis of health literacy in work package 6.

Prof Helle Terkildsen Maindal

Principal Investigator (PI)

Helle is a Professor of Health Promotion at the Department of Public Health at Aarhus University. She holds a Master in Public Health as well as a PhD in Medicine. Helle has been working at the interface of research, teaching and practice in public health and health promotion for decades. She is also a senior researcher at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and an honoured Professor at Deakin University, Australia, where she works with health promotion interventions and health literacy. Her main research area is intervention methodology, e.g. setting up and investigating programmes for the prevention of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases using innovative approaches including multi-level, co-production strategies. Helle is the PI for the Face-it study, an RCT, focusing on the prevention of diabetes in families after gestational diabetes, as well as PI for the Danish HeLP Study (Health Literacy in Pregnancy). Furthermore, Helle is the national chair of the Danish Health Literacy Network and an active member of the global network for health literacy. Her role in Bump2Baby and Me is to support and contribute to the health literacy aspects.

Nanna Husted Jensen

Research Team

Nanna is a research fellow at the Department of Public Health at Aarhus University. She holds an MSc in Public Health Science, and in her PhD studies, she is evaluating the implementation of the Danish Face-it study. She is experienced in the field of intervention methodology (design and evaluation of complex interventions), and child and maternal health care as well as health literacy are her main research areas. Nanna is a co-investigator of the Danish HeLP Study (Health Literacy in Pregnancy), and her role in Bump2Baby and Me is to support health literacy aspects of the project. She will perform analyses of health literacy data and support the project's intervention activities focused on health literacy. Nanna will also support Aarhus University in the project management, dissemination and communication of the project’s health literacy aspects.
